This release note documents components of the InSight online
documentation family: the available online books, the IRIS
InSight Viewer and SGIHelp.
Note: As of release 5.0 (shipped with IRIX 6.5.17), the
IRIS InSight Viewer and the Dynaweb product
(ddddyyyynnnnaaaawwwweeeebbbb....sssswwww....eeeeooooeeee) are no longer required and have been
discontinued. The "insight" application exists
solely as a process that launches InfoSearch.
For additional information pertaining to the online
documentation capabilities of your SGI system, please
take a look at the iiiinnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt____bbbbaaaasssseeee and iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh
release notes.
SGIHelp is the IRIX Interactive Desktop(TM) help system that
is utilized by the majority of applications shipped from
SGI. Content that is displayed to the user is retrieved
directly from the online books found on your system. Once
within the SGIHelp Viewer, the user can scroll through the
text, navigate via hypertext links, print, and browse a
contents area which contains the help topics for a
particular application that generated a "help" request.
SGIHelp is an application that is executed when a request is
made to get "help". In general, such requests are generated
from (but are not limited to) an application's "Help" menu
or "Help" pushbutton(s), or from the Desktop "Toolchest". A
user should never have to start SGIHelp from the command-
line.
The SGI Book Building Tools (iiiinnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt____ddddeeeevvvv) is a set of tools
that enable developers to create their own online books, as
well as help for their applications. Help created with
these tools can be made directly accessible from within the
SGIHelp system. See the release notes for iiiinnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt____ddddeeeevvvv for
more information.
Many End-User, Administrative and Help online books are
contained within subsystems included in the standard IRIX
product distribution. Developer books are included as part
of the Developer Product options. Many other optional
software products include books as well. In general, books
can be installed from those subsystems that utilize the
"*.books.*" subsystem image designation. Examples include:
eoe.books.sgi_admin and eoe.books.help, to name a couple.
